From Diapers to Deep Thoughts : Inside Out Revolution

Suvik and the book

As I cherish the last week of my two-month paternity leave, courtesy of the fantastic company I work for, Adobe, I reflect on the incredible journey these past weeks have been. Alongside the joyful chaos of taking care of my newborn, I’ve had the invaluable opportunity to explore various dimensions of myself. This time off has allowed me to complete the manuscript of my book, finish many coaching and spiritual books, and embark on a profound journey of self-discovery.

Among the books that have left a lasting imprint on my journey is “The Inside-Out Revolution” by Michael Neill. This remarkable read has enriched my understanding of personal growth and resonates deeply with the profound wisdom of Vedanta, which I’ve been exploring concurrently.

Neill’s book became a trusted companion during those quiet moments when the baby was asleep and I could explore the corridors of my mind. His words resonated with me profoundly, echoing the shifts and revelations I was experiencing as a new parent.

Neill’s book reads like a heartfelt conversation with a wise friend during those quiet moments when the baby was asleep and I could explore the corridors of my mind. It beautifully aligns with the essence of Vedanta, making it a truly enlightening read. It all begins with a powerful premise:

"We live in the feeling of our thinking, not the feeling of our circumstances. Life is experienced from the inside out. When you truly understand this, your world can transform."

Amid diaper changes and late-night sleeps, these words struck a chord. They reminded me that even in the chaos of parenthood, my inner world held the keys to my experience of this new chapter. Vedanta, too, teaches us that our perception of reality is deeply influenced by our thoughts and consciousness.

Throughout the book, Neill’s insights offer profound connections with Vedanta philosophy while remaining accessible and practical:

"The mind is like a river, constantly flowing with thoughts. It's not about stopping the river; it's about realizing you can choose which thoughts to ride and which to let flow past."

This metaphor aligns beautifully with Vedanta’s emphasis on mastering the mind and the power of discernment. It underscores the importance of choosing our thoughts consciously. In the quiet moments of late-night baby monitoring, I often found my mind racing with thoughts about the future. Neill’s metaphor of the mind as a river offered me solace. In the teachings of Vedanta, presence or mindfulness is a cornerstone of spiritual growth. Neill’s words beautifully reinforce this idea, reminding us that life’s profound moments unfold when we are fully present.

"Imagine the freedom of not being at the mercy of your thoughts. When you understand that thoughts are like clouds passing through the sky of your mind, you can let them come and go without attachment."

This notion of freedom from thought deeply resonates with Vedanta’s teachings on detachment and the transient nature of thoughts.

"When you realize that you create your experience, you also understand that you have the power to change it. It's a shift from victimhood to ownership of your life."

As a parent, my mind often teemed with worries and plans. But Neill’s vision of freedom from thought became a guiding light. It helped me detach from my racing thoughts and embrace the serenity of the present moment.

During late-night sweet baby coos, books like “The Inside-Out Revolution” became a companion on my journey of self-discovery, a reminder that even amidst the beautiful chaos of parenthood, my inner world held the keys to transformation.

I am profoundly grateful to Adobe for granting me this precious paternity break, which allowed me to care for my newborn and my own growth and understanding.
